Behavior
Simulator
Runs an Action flow as a Discrete Event simulation (one timed run you can watch) or a Monte Carlo study (many runs).
Where to find it
- In the navigation rail: Behavior → Simulator.
- From an Action Diagram: ▶ Simulate ▾. From an Action: Open ▾ → Simulator.
- Address:
simulator/<actionId>or?root=<id>, with?mode=des|mc,?seed=,?run=1and?artifact=<saved results>.
Main actions
- Top bar: Saved Results ▾ and Open Action Diagram. The header chooses the root action and the mode.
- Settings: Iterations (Monte Carlo, up to 20,000), Decisions (Automate with no script / Prompt on no script), Speed (1× to 100,000×), Fixed-duration variation (None, Uniform ±%, Triangular ±%), Random seed, Calendar Mode, Debug; Save Settings and Default Settings.
- Discrete Event: ▶ Play / ⏸ Pause, ⏭ Step, ⏩ Run to End, ⟲ Reset. In prompt mode a decision asks which branch to take.
- Monte Carlo: ▶ Run Monte Carlo (with progress and Cancel), Check Against Requirement…, Project Exports ▾ (MS Project XML for the longest, shortest, cheapest and most expensive runs).
- Panels: + Add Panel and Reset Layout; drag to reorder; each panel's ⋯ has Reports (CSV), Image (PNG, SVG) and Panel settings. Discrete Event: Status, Total Time, Total Cost, Gantt Chart, Tree Map, cost and resource charts, Asset Utilization, Action Trace, Global Tracker, Console, Event Log. Monte Carlo: Status, Time and Cost Bar Charts and Tree Maps, Resources, Asset Utilization, Statistics (mean with 95% confidence interval, SD, percentiles), Cumulative Probability (S-Curve), Decision Paths, Console.
- Export Results… saves an Artifact labeled Simulation Output; it reopens with a banner that offers Re-run on the model.
Tips
- Before a Monte Carlo run, ORs without probabilities and LOOPs without iterations are listed; Use Equal Probabilities fills them for the run.
- Runs that deadlock or fail are left out of the statistics; a red box shows P(failure) and View Run replays one with its own seed.
- Durations come from each action's Duration, fixed or a distribution. Sampled negative durations are drawn again (a normal distribution truncated at 0).
