Attachments and Project Storage
Files in a project (FILE attributes, entity and rich-text images, diagram and whiteboard images, simulation results) are kept in file storage on the server, separate from the project data. Each file is stored once, however often it is used.
Where to find it
- ⌘K → Project Storage…, Project Storage… in the project switcher, or Storage… in a project's menu under Manage Projects.
Main actions
- Limits: 25 MB per file; 1 GB of attachments per project; 5 GB per person (the attachments of every project you own plus your clipart). Files an editor adds to your project count toward your storage. The server administrator may set other limits; Project Storage shows the ones in force.
- Large images: images placed on diagrams, whiteboards, in rich text or as an entity image are reduced to 4,000 px on the longest side when they are added. Files attached to a FILE attribute keep their original size.
- Usage: the meter shows this project's usage and your own. At 80 % a notice asks you to remove large files. At 100 % new files are not uploaded: they stay inside the project data, which still saves, until space is free.
- Remove a file (owners): the list shows every attachment with its size and where it is used. Remove takes it out of the project, including the change history: FILE values keep their name, images lose the picture. Undo brings it back.
- Deletion: a file that no project, earlier version or pending change uses any more is deleted 30 days after its last use. Until then it still counts as stored on the server, not toward your project.
- Clipart: your whiteboard clipart (uploads and AI-generated items) belongs to your account. Open an item's details (⋯) and select Share with members of this project to let the project's members use it; only you can change or delete it.
Tips
- Files are read directly from file storage with links that expire after a few minutes; a link copied from the page stops working.
- Do not upload regulated information; see Data You Must Not Store Here.
