Architecture · How-to
Build the Architecture and Produce an ICD
Decompose the system into assets, define blocks and connections, show what flows between them, and export an interface control document.
- Open Architecture → Asset Diagrams, create an Asset Diagram for the system and add parts with + Asset ▾ → New Child Asset…. Connect them with + Conduit.
- For SysML, open the system's Block Definition Diagram (type selector in the top bar). Add ports, values and operations from the palette and set multiplicities on the composition lines.
- Switch to the Internal Block Diagram. Nest the parts, add ports, and drag between ports to create connectors (Conduits).
- Select a connector. In the inspector, add Conveyed Items (+ Add Item ▾ or a suggestion), set Interface Status and Owner, and + Link Requirement… for its interface requirements. The item flows appear on the connector.
- Set Capacity and Units on the conduit and Data Rate or Size on each item; the Capacity Check turns the label red when the items exceed the capacity.
- Open Interfaces → Interface Register to review every interface by status, or open the Interface Control Diagram and choose the Left and Right parent assets.
- Click Export ICD Document (Word) or Export ICD Table (CSV) in the ICD toolbar, or ICD on a register row for one interface.
